Training isn't a skill.
It's a lifestyle

At Dog-Chi Dojo, we believe dog training isn’t just a skill practiced during a session—it’s a lifestyle carried into every moment with your dog. True training is built on balance, communication, and the energy shared between human and canine. That’s why you’re not just receiving dog training—you’re receiving coaching. We work with both ends of the leash, helping dogs learn new behaviors while guiding owners to lead with calm energy, clarity, and consistency. By blending practical training methods with the flowing philosophy inspired by Daoist principles, we help develop patience, awareness, and confident leadership. When training becomes part of daily life, harmony between you and your dog naturally follows.

Elevate your dog's potential through modern methods that honor the unique spirit of every animal.

Communication

The leash is not just a tether for our dogs; it is the connecting link that crosses the language barrier between human and canine. This is used as a bridge to help open a two-way flow of communication. Learn different techniques, grips, and usages that work for your unique goals.

We, both humans and canines, are all individuals with different attitudes, aptitudes, limitations, and complications. Every human/dog pair must learn to work together, and the bonds are as varied as we are. Fostering a relationship that honors the needs of both of you is key to a balanced life together.

Our four-legged friends rarely move at random. Physical touch, body language, spatial positioning, and scent are key components of communication that humans often miss. You can learn how to interpret your dog's actions and truly converse with your companion.

Meet Tucker

Tucker came to Jacob 'through the grapevine'. His father's coworker's sister was looking to rehome their Australian Shepherd. After a very nice and calm introduction Jacob decided to adopt him, at which point Tucker decided to add a little chaos to his new life. It was this need for training that led Jacob to finding his passion. The two naturally grew together as a team. Tucker understands he is a dog trainers' dog, and he has learned to help dogs of all kinds of temperaments. Whether it is helping a fearful dog open up or de-escalating a tense confrontation, Tucker can ease the situation. He often earns the trust of even the most reactive dogs.

On his days off he enjoys a good hike in the woods, where he can run like a true maniac. His favorite vacation spots include a good place to swim, and cheese is his favorite treat.

Meet Jacob Mayer

Jacob Mayer’s path to professional dog training began with a search for meaningful, fulfilling work. After completing his college education, he built a successful career as a passenger conductor with Amtrak. While grateful for the opportunity, Jacob realized he wanted a career that inspired passion, purpose, and personal growth. That realization led him back to the Akron area to be closer to friends and family and begin a new chapter.

Through that journey of self-discovery, Jacob found his calling in dog training. He apprenticed under an experienced master trainer, where he gained hands-on knowledge, refined his skills, and developed a deep understanding of canine behavior and communication. With a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future, Jacob eventually launched his own training practice.

Today, Jacob combines professional expertise with a personalized approach, offering a training style built on trust, communication, and lasting results. He is passionate about helping dogs and their owners build stronger relationships and achieve success together.
